Ranson is growing — and that's a good thing, if we can get the leadership right. I'm Dan Strickland, and I'm running for Ranson City Council to deliver responsive services, clear priorities, and the kind of steady, accountable leadership our city deserves.

Ranson, West Virginia is at a crossroads. With 5.7% annual growth and a population that just crossed 6,000, we have real opportunity ahead — but only if we protect what makes this city home while preparing for what's next. This isn't about politics. It's about neighbors taking care of neighbors — and a city taking care of its citizenry.

The Issues That Matter to Ranson, WV Families

I've been knocking on doors across Ranson, and the same concerns keep coming up. These aren't abstract policy debates — they're the daily frustrations and real worries of our neighbors.

Snow Removal & Winter Safety

When winter hits, Ranson residents shouldn't wonder if their street will get plowed. I'm proposing a clear winter service standard: if it's a city road, the city makes it safe — period.

Water Bills & Transparency

A 15% rate hike got people's attention. Residents deserve to understand exactly where their money goes and why rates change. I'll push for council scrutiny and public accountability on utility costs.

Infrastructure & Sidewalks

Potholes, crumbling sidewalks, broken streetlights — deferred maintenance costs more in the long run. We need a real maintenance schedule with public tracking.

Commuter Burnout & Traffic

Many Ranson residents commute to Northern Virginia or DC. Route 9 congestion is exhausting. Smart growth means not making commutes worse — and investing in safer intersections.

Public Safety Support

Our police and first responders need backing — staffing, training, and prevention strategies that reduce emergencies before they happen.

Parks & Family Spaces

Ranson families are driving to Martinsburg for playgrounds and parks. We need more "third places" — spaces where neighbors can gather, kids can play, and families want to stay.

I'm not a career politician. I'm a husband, a father of five, a combat veteran, and a business owner. I've spent my career solving problems — in the Army, in government contracting, in global consulting, and in building businesses across five states (and growing).


But more than any of that, I'm a Ranson resident. My kids go to school here. My family's future is tied to this city's future. And I believe Ranson is uniquely positioned for success — if we prepare for opportunity instead of just reacting to growth.
